Martin Czerny is a cardiac and vascular surgeon and full professor of surgery, eMBA. He undertook his surgical training in Vienna (Professor Wolner) and held the position of Attending Surgeon and Director of Clinical Research at the Inselspital Berne until June 2013. From 2013 to 2014, Martin worked as a consultant at the University Clinic of Cardiovascular Surgery in Zurich. Since 2015, he is a senior consultant cardiovascular surgeon at the University Hospital Freiburg, director of the aortic center, section head of vascular and endovascular surgery as well as co-director of the thoracic organ transplantation center- heart and lung. As of 2020 he is also Chairman-Cardiovascular Surgery Working Group of ESC, Chairman of Aortic Commission of DGTHG, Associate Editor for European Heart Journal and as of 2021 Associate Editor for International Journal of Cardiology. Since October 2020, Martin holds a Heisenberg Professorship for Open and Endovascular Aortic Surgery at the Albert Ludwigs University Freiburg.
