I was trained for 6 years in general surgery at the Middelheim General Hospital in Antwerp (Belgium) and consecutively I followed a 4.5 years specific cardiothoracic training at the St.Antonius Hospital, Nieuwegein (The Netherlands) with also some training in pediatric cardiac surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormondstreet in London (United Kingdom). In 1995 I became staff member in St.Antonius Hospital and defended my medical thesis on “the surgical treatment of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm” (University of Utrecht, The Netherlands). I was a few years affiliated with the University Medical Center Nijmegen (the Netherlands) specifically for aortic pathology. Since 2009 I am the head of the department of cardiac surgery at AZ St.Jan, Bruges (Belgium). My interest lies in the broad field of aortic pathology and its surgical treatment.
